BEYOND SYMPTOMS

What Is Your Nervous System Communicating?

Your nervous system is continuously receiving information and helping your body respond to physical, mental, and everyday demands. Sometimes you feel those demands as tension, fatigue, discomfort, or difficulty relaxing. At other times, your body may be working harder even when obvious symptoms are not present.

Dr. Elmira uses INSiGHT scanning technology as one part of a comprehensive assessment to collect information about patterns associated with muscle activity, spinal surface temperature, and autonomic nervous-system activity.

TWO SYSTEMS. ONE ADAPTIVE RESPONSE.

Fight or Flight and Rest and Digest

The autonomic nervous system helps manage functions that occur without conscious effort. Its sympathetic and parasympathetic branches are both active throughout the day, constantly adjusting to what your body needs.

SYMPATHETIC

Respond & Protect

Often described as “fight or flight,” this branch helps prepare your body for challenge, action, and alertness. Think of it as the accelerator—essential when a situation calls for energy and a faster response.

PARASYMPATHETIC

Rest & Recover

Known as “rest and digest,” this branch is associated with quieter states, recovery, and conservation of energy. Think of it as the brake that helps the body settle after a demand has passed.

The goal is not to stay calm all the time. A responsive nervous system should be able to increase activity when needed and move toward recovery when the demand is over. We are interested in the flexibility of that response—not labelling one side as good and the other as bad.

THREE PERSPECTIVES

A More Complete Picture

No single measurement tells the whole story. The INSiGHT system brings together three different types of information that Dr. Elmira considers alongside your history and physical examination.

neuroPULSE — HRV

Heart rate variability measures the small changes in time between individual heartbeats. These variations reflect the ongoing influence of the autonomic nervous system.

  • Sympathetic and parasympathetic patterns
  • Autonomic activity during the assessment
  • Your personal baseline and trends over time

neuroCORE — sEMG

Surface electromyography measures electrical activity produced by muscles located along the spine while you are comfortably seated.

  • Side-to-side muscle activity
  • Areas working harder to support posture
  • Patterns of muscular tension or reduced activity

neuroTHERMAL

Infrared sensors measure and compare skin-temperature patterns along the spine, adding another objective perspective to the assessment.

  • Spinal surface-temperature differences
  • A consistent baseline for comparison
  • Patterns considered within clinical context

About HRV: Sleep, activity, illness, medication, hydration, age, breathing, emotional stress, and testing conditions can influence a reading. That is why Dr. Elmira focuses on context and trends rather than treating one isolated number as the whole answer.

MAKE THE INVISIBLE EASIER TO DISCUSS

From “How Do You Feel?” to a More Complete Conversation

How you feel matters—but symptoms are only one part of your story. Visual reports can make complex information easier to understand and help you participate more confidently in decisions about your care.

Establish a baseline
See where your measurements begin.
Explain clearly
Turn complex data into a visual conversation.
Look for patterns
Consider findings alongside your full assessment.
Compare over time
Review your own trends when re-scanning is appropriate.

An INSiGHT scan is a snapshot of one moment. Its value comes from careful interpretation, consistent testing conditions, clinical context, and—when appropriate—comparison with your own future measurements. It is not used as a stand-alone medical diagnosis.

See More. Understand More.

At your second appointment, Dr. Elmira reviews your consultation, examination, and scan findings in clear language. You will have time to see the results, ask questions, and understand any recommendations before deciding how you would like to proceed.
